School's Final goodbye

19 Dec, 2011 11:11 AM
AFTER 46 years of education, Salt Creek Primary School staff and students bid one another adieu for the last time on Sunday.

Past and present students, staff, families and friends reminisced and commemorated the primary school located in the heart of the Coorong.

Entertainment and a catered lunch were provided for the guests who came along to farewell the school after the difficult decision was made by parents to close the school because of a lack of numbers.

Although a sad time, spirits remained high among a crowd which praised the strong sense of community instilled into all who attended the school.

During a presentation, five of the seven students left at the school were presented with certificates, and personal reflections and experiences were shared. The other two students were absent.

John Hannath was the first principal of the school, starting his career at Salt Creek in 1965, when the school was moved from its previous location at Tilley Swamp. “It is so fantastic to see so many people here today, Mr Hannath told the crowd.
