DURING near perfect weather conditions over the weekend, 89-year-old veteran bowler Vic Dawson showed the men at the Robe Bowling Club how it is done as he took out the club’s men’s singles championships.
The event was held over Saturday and Sunday, with 17 players participating in the two day event.
Many close games on Saturday with the highlight being an epic third round match between Dawson and David Robinson.
The match went for 30 ends before Dawson won 21-16. The semi finalists on Saturday were Mark Giles versus Dean Burgoyne and Errol Jennings up against Dawson. Giles defeated Burgoyne in a very close contest 21-20 when Giles moved the jack to score three shots after trailing 18 - 20. In the other semi final Dawson controlled the game from the beginning and ran out a comfortable winner against Jennings 21-15.
The final between Giles and the 89 year old Dawson, who has been bowling for 60 years, ended in a win to Dawson 25-14.
When asked the secret to his success, Vic said that learning how to draw bowl had been his secret to winning over the years. This concludes another successful season of the men’s championships for the Robe
