Robe’s footballers have had an ideal lead-up to this weekend’s round 1, winning the pre-season carnival at Kalangadoo on March 19.
The first match was against Port MacDonnell and Robe won by 16 points after two 15-minute halves. They played Glencoe in the following game and beat them by 9 goals.
Robe coach Jack Kelly said: “We ended up in the grand final against Tantanoola. We won by 7 goals although we only played 10 a side in the grand final because a few team members had a couple of injuries.
“It was pretty hot and we only played 10 minute halves, 36 degrees is not good footy weather and we are not really used to that in Robe. It was good to win, really positive but we are not going to read too much into it.
“We have had a a good pre-season but we haven’t really played anyone yet and we don’t want to get to far ahead of ourselves.”
Robe will be playing against Glencoe this Saturday in round 1 and Nangwarry the following week.
Kelly said: “I’m excited about the upcoming season, we have worked really hard and it has been really positive so far, we have been training since December.”
“We don’t want to put too many expectations on ourselves but we have a lot of new blokes and we are moving the ball well through the new players.”
The Roosters also took on Kingston in a trial last weekend.
