Kingston men Arnold Thorpe and Kym Wehl photographed a seven gill shark attacking their boat over the long weekend.
Despite the close encounter, Arnold could see the lighter side, saying: “He was awfully big.”
“He has a lot of teeth. He kept bumping the boat, my mate whacked him with a stick and he wouldn't take any notice,” he said.
“He just kept coming back for a bit of a bite.
“He shook the boat and he wouldn't leave the boat alone.”
“We had been catching gummy sharks. But we had to finish up and move off, he needed that bit of water.”
The good news is the shark was spotted very far off shore, in deep water.
