Great job: Jojo Spook has just returned from an art residency with Ghostnets Australia.

Robe artist Jojo Spook has recently completed an art residency with Ghostnets Australia, working with Indigenous elders and a local school.

The trip was five weeks long travelling in a motor home to Cairns and the Atherton table lands.

Jojo said: “I would like to thank the Robe and Lucindale community for helping me to successfully fund this trip along with funding from Country Arts SA.

“From this trip I have come back and intend to pass on various skills through creative art workshops within the Limestone Coast and new art space @ The Yellow Brick Art House. This space is also open to artists to teach and will host several over the summer period.

“The first works that I constructed on return are called ‘Spirit Dogs’ and have received the overall winner of the South East Arts Society recently in Mount Gambier. These sculptures were made from materials, bones, shells, and feathers collected from the trip.”

Classes are tailored to all skill levels, with all material included, and can be continued on after the day.

Classes on offer:

  • Silversmithing – learn to make a brooch or pendant in a day, using recycled metals.
  • Wacky Wire – Make a garden sculpture to be proud of in three hours.
  • Limestone Carving – Learn carving techniques using hand tools and Mt Gambier Coraline stone. and create a unique garden sculpture in three hours.
  • Canvas Painting – Learn watery layering techniques and colour mixing using mediums in a day.

An open studio and garden art sale will be held November 4 from 2pm to 5pm.

Art works include welded metal garden sculpture, paintings on canvas, carved limestone sculpture and much more.
