Kingston local Justin Deoliveira will be spinning tunes this Saturday night as DJ Nugget hits the decks with some fresh tunes.
It’s a pretty big gig, and Justin said the lead-up to a gig can be equal parts pressure and excitement.
“The week leading into a gig is filled with excitement but equally as nerve racking knowing I am the person that will control the atmosphere and mood of the party through the music I play,” he said.
Justin said patrons can expect to hear some top 40 tracks as well as a few sneaky 90s RnB classics.
“I'm going to focus the night on top 40/ main stream type tracks, throwing in a bit of RnB/hip hop when the party is ready to go next level,” he said.
“You just can't beat a bit of old school 'Nelly' when the party is lit on a Saturday night.”
While he enjoys DJing, Justin says for now it’s just something he for fun and doesn’t plan to enter the business professionally.
“DJing is purely just for fun, although it is handy earning a coin or two away from my weekday job but I don't really have a desire to go pro in this business as my trade is the main bread winner for my family and I have to knuckle down on that for the time being.”
It took a while to settle on a DJ name, Justin said, after a lot of chopping and changing.
“I did chop and change my name to start with but now that I'm becoming very well known around the district as the 'go to' DJ I thought I better settle with this one once and for all!”
“A good mate of mine threw this name out there one night and since then it has just stuck.”
