A Port Pirie woman, 48, died in the early hours of Tuesday morning while being transported in an ambulance to Adelaide.

The ambulance rolled over on Port Wakefield Road at 2:45am, injuring the woman’s 16-year-old daughter, a paramedic in the back of the vehicle and the 38-year-old driver.

The three were taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with minor injuries.

Inspector Ben Spencer, speaking at SA Police’s Adelaide headquarters, said all aspects of the accident were being investigated.

He said the patient was being transported to Adelaide for a different type of care.

“It’s not my understanding that there was any time critical risk or emergency transport.”

Police transported the ambulance to a facility at Ottoway for examination. They are seeking information from people who may have been travelling on Port Wakefield Road between 12am and 3am.
