Butcher closes up the shop

For the past 13 years Lyndon, Diane and Craig Cooper have been serving meat to Kingston SE and Robe from Kingston Meats, the business built from the ground up.

Kingston Meats has been supplying restaurants, cafes and pubs in Kingston and Robe as well as servicing people in the shop on Agnes Street.

On Friday October 6, the friendly over the counter relationship with customers sadly came to an end.

Craig will be moving to Adelaide to start a new chapter in his life with his soon to be newly wed wife.

”I've been waiting a long time for this moment to come and I can’t wait,” he said.

“It's a mixed feeling. I'm very sad to be going because it's my home town and I've loved working here, but moving on will be an exciting chapter.”

However despite his move he isn’t going cold turkey on the meat industry or on the South East: Craig will still have his friendly face around town a couple of days a week operating the wholesale business.

“I want our very loyal customers to know that we will be continuing our bulk beef, lamb trade and bulk orders,” Craig said.

“I’ll be back in Kingston Wednesday afternoons and continuing my normal deliveries to Robe every Thursday.

“We will be cutting and delivering bulk orders to hotels, restaurants, clubs and weddings, if the order is put in Tuesday it will be received Thursday.

“The business will be similar to how I run ‘bulk week’.”

Craig will also continue to sell 5kg boxes of South Australian whole cooked prawns for $160, delivered before Christmas.

The orders have to be in by November 12 and will be delivered in the first week of December.

“To all our wonderful and loyal customers I would like to say a huge thank you for your support the last 13 years, we have enjoyed the challenge and have loved every minute of it,” Craig said.

“We are going down this path in the hope of still selling the butcher business, so if you are interested or know of someone that would be please don't hesitate to call to discuss the buying of Kingston Meats.

“The butcher shop front could be reopened and new owners could continue the wholesale business.”
