Robe District Council will vary the 2017-18 Annual Business Plan and Budget by $16,000 to allow for the completion of the joint project redevelopment of Jumbo’s Landing.
At the August 2015 meeting Robe council received and considered a presentation and concept plan for the staged redevelopment of Jumbo’s landing as a joint project with the Robe Lions Club.
During 2015-16 the Lions club and council undertook the first stage of the redevelopment.
This involved the upgrading of the landing and raising the level of the area to prevent inundation during the winter.
The second stage of the development involves the placement of public toilets at the site and the beautification of the site with council’s main involvement being the installation of the public toilets.
Preliminary plans have been developed using a surplus tank toilet connected to a holding tank which will be regularly pumped out.
Robe council made an allocation of $15,000 within the 2016-17 budget.
The work in relation to the installation of the toilets did not proceed in the 2016-17 financial year due to delays involving contractors and materials.
The works operations coordinator has been coordinating all contractor together with the Lions club in recent weeks and it is anticipated that this final stage will be completed before the end of the calendar year.
At the first budget review funds will be reallocated from other projects which either won’t be proceeding or will have come in under budget.
The council anticipated there would be no net increase in expenditure for the 2017-18 financial year.
