Lightning activity causes fires

Three trucks and a bulk water carrier from the Lacepede CFS Group responded to two fires on November 29 due to lightning activity.

Keilira, Marcollat and Tilley Swamp brigades responded to the property West Bore on the Ballater Road to a grass fire.

They were also joined by Willalooka and Padthaway Brigades from the Tatiara group.

The fire took some time to control due to the high fuel load present at this time of year.

No livestock or assets were lost the area burnt was approximately 45 hectares.

While there they were responded to an additional fire at Moville on Playfairs Road, west of Christmas Rocks to another lighting strike.

This fire was on the edge of a native vegetation area but burnt into the pasture next door only back burning into the native vegetation. Again no livestock or assets were lost the area burnt was approximately two hectares.

The CFS is asking that everyone be vigilant over the next few weeks as a lot of lightning strikes hit the ground but didn’t ignite, could in the future with the right weather conditions.
