The Stand Like Stone fundraiser ‘Swinging With The Stars’ show will take place again at The Barn on Saturday June 23.
Two ladies from Robe have been selected to take part in the huge annual fundraiser – Anna Hooper and Laura Hawkins.
Anna owns and manages Cape Jaffa Wines with her husband Derek, while Laura has had a seaside change after moving to Robe from Frances recently. Both are looking forward to the challenges ahead.
Anna mentioned to the Leader that she is not afraid to throw herself into challenging situations, adding that she is eager to learn.
“I am really looking forward to learning to dance as it’s not something I’ve ever really done before and I’m hoping it will be great fun experience with lots of laughs,” Anna said.
Anna said she is driven to help the community in any way she can, mentioning that the Stand Like Stone Foundation is a fantastic avenue of local support.
“I like to think I’m a community minded person and I really support and value the Stand Like Stone Foundation,” she said. “Their work is huge for the Limestone Coast and it provides so many opportunities for the fantastic initiatives that it supports.”
When approached and asked if she would like to be involved, Anna admitted that she was hesitant at first.
“I’ll admit I had some reservations mainly due to my lack of dancing talent however I’m not too proud to do something that’s helping local charitable organisations,” she said. “I’m also honoured to have been chosen.”
The lead up to the dance will involve regular lessons in Mount Gambier with other local celebrities involved.
“I look forward to getting to know that group better along with the professional dancers too, plus having some fun along the way,” Anna said. “I also hope it ends with a thoroughly entertaining night for all the guests. I’ve heard they are really fabulous events.”
Laura also spoke about what she is looking forward to about the dance.
“I’m excited for it to all come together and have a blast,” Laura said.
Laura told the Leader about her journey back to the South East.
“I moved back to the South East in late 2016, I was in Frances on the home property and they hadn’t really had anyone from the Frances area so they approached me,” she said. “I’m doing it for the Naracoorte district sub-fund, after deciding to do that I came down to Robe.”
Laura will be doing fundraisers in both areas.
“I just thought it would be a bit of fun and it’s for a good cause. Keen to get out of my comfort zone and learn to dance.”
The swinging with the stars event is held to raise funds as well as awareness for the Stand Like Stone Foundation which operates throughout the Limestone Coast, established in 2004.
All funds raised through the event will go back into the local community in order to fund scholarships as well as grants that are used through charitable projects.
Community generosity is what makes the event such a big success every year. Local businesses and individuals have donated time money and products while minimising the cost before maximising the positive outcomes for local communities.
