Robe Rooster Jake Wehl has been selected to play in the Murray SE Zone Side this year.
The Leader spoke to Jake about what he is looking forward to about playing in the side this weekend at Renmark.
“I’m looking forward to playing alongside and against some of the best country footballers and using their skill and experience to help progress my footy,” Jake said.
Jake has played exceptionally well this year for the Rooster’s A grade side. Jake also played in the SE Zone Carnival for the MSE side just a few weeks ago, obtaining best on ground for the MSE and the best u’21 player for the day.
Jake added that he will be able to bring some pace to the side throughout the games this weekend, also touching on what he has improved over the last couple of years in his game to become a more skilled player.
“This year at the Roosters compared to when I played last in 2016, I put a lot more time and effort into my pre season, getting my body right and my fitness up,” he said. “I think that has improved the rest of my game.”
Jake went into detail about how this week’s game will differ from other games he’s played in the past and what he will do to adapt to the nature of the games this weekend in Renmark.
“It will be difficult to quickly adapt to the speed and skill of the opposition and to get to know the new faces that I’ll be playing with in the short formatted games.”
‘Wehly’ finished by explaining what he has enjoyed about moving back to Robe from Adelaide after spending a year at University and what he is looking forward to in the near future with his football.
“I’ve mostly enjoyed playing footy alongside my mates, and achieving a bit of success in the season so far,” Jake said. “It has been great to see Chipper’s hard work and effort paying off. It is great to see the community getting behind us with support as well.”
