Ski Race Australia to host world champs in Robe

Ski Racing Australia has agreed to a proposal from Robe to hold its world championship selection races in town.

The race will take place February 23-24 next year, with the races run on a 5km course along the foreshore, starting off at the Robe Hotel, running 100m off shore to Long Beach and back. SRA expect between 60 and 80 boats will attend, with each boat having a support team of 10 and racers will reach speeds of 140km/h.

Organiser at ‘Robe Events’ Jamie Aitken said it was planned to block off Mundy Terrace, allowing the public to view the racing from the lawns opposite the Robe Institute, with catering operating from the parking area adjacent. ‘Robe Events’ are expecting up to 1000 people associated with the racers and maybe another 2000 general spectators.
