As excitement builds for the 2018 Southern Ocean Art Prize, event coordinators are busy curating a range of works for exhibition and judging before the opening at 7pm Friday, November 2.
The iconic Robe Institute will once again play host to this year’s gala style evening. Open to the public, opening night is set to achieve a number of things.
The event provides a unique opportunity for locals, travellers, contributors and sponsors and the greater community to come together to celebrate the arts and to peruse an eclectic mixture of photography, sculpture and 2-dimensional works from all ages.
Also on offer at opening night will be a selection of Robe and Mt Benson wines from Norfolk Rise, Cape Jaffa, Wangolina, Woodsoak, Karatta, Governor Robe and Ralph Fowler as well as hand crafted beer from Robe Town Brewery and canapés from Cantina Kick.
This year’s event will open to the public Friday, November 2 at 7 pm with live acoustic tunes by Adelaide based musician Ollie English. Following this will be the commencement of speeches made by the committee, sponsors and of course judges with the announcements of the 2018 prizes.
“We are thrilled to be able to continue this event with the backing of strong community support,” said organiser Tom Davidson.
“The Robe District Council theme of ‘War on Waste’ has created a poignant and topical conversation around consumerism and the waste it generates, and many artist have chosen to communicate this through their works.”
The Robe Community Bendigo Bank’s consistent involvement in sponsorship of the Creative Photography Award has seen the number of entrants in this category grow significantly. The Morgan Family’s legacy of supporting local artists has been well received and maintains the event with a strong connection to our local community.
As an added attraction this year, local artists JoJo Spook and Tom Davidson will be hosting a War on Waste inspired workshop sponsored by the Robe Community Bendigo Bank. This workshop will be held Saturday at 11am, Robe Institute Lawns.
