Robe golf weekend a hit

The 2018 Robe Golf Club weekend was a big hit last weekend.

In what has become an annual tradition at the seaside, the event will celebrate its 20th anniversary year in 2019.

Friday – Coopers DiGiorgio Ambrose Day

Friday November 23 saw 18 teams take part in the annual Coopers Brewery/DiGiorgio Wines 18 Hole Ambrose at Robe Golf Club.

With the moving of the event to the Friday of our Men’s Open and Village Classic we saw a doubling of the entries from last year. Teams were comprised of men or mixed teams.

Winners on the day were the team of John Fenton, Steve Clements, Bruce Knight and Brad Nunan with a net 53.

Second was the team of Chris Fry, Tim Shortt, Lachy Jacob and Grant Wood with a net 54.63, closely followed by the team of Peter Westley, James Norcock, Henry Norcock and Darren Young with a net 54.75 in 3rd.

A big thank you to the sponsors Coopers Brewery and DiGiorgio Wines for their generosity to this event and all of the helpers on the day making this a great success.

Saturday – Mitre 10 Robe Men’s Open

On Saturday 45 men played in the Mitre 10 Robe Open contested over three grades.

The A grade comprised of an excellent field with players warming up for Sunday’s Village Classic.

A grade winner was Horsham’s Casey Schmidt with an excellent 70 followed by Naracoorte’s Trevor Smith with a 71.

Net winner was Mount Gambier’s Darren Bilney with a net 70 winning on a count back from Heywood’s Jayden McLeod.

B Grade was won by Kingston’s Milan Hodak with 82 followed in 2 nd by Penola’s Paul Harmer. Net results were the Lucindale duo of Brad Gear with a net 68 and Terry Rivett with a net 73.

C Grade saw Lucindale’s Bill Lively in 1st with an 86 followed by Adrian Thiele with a 92.

Net winner was Robe’s John Fenton with a net 70 and Nathan Chueng with a net 73.

Saturday – Cape Jaffa Ladies Ambrose

Saturday afternoon the ladies held a 13 hole Ambrose to allow the Classic players a chance to play the course.

The team of Caitlin Roberts, Trish Miller, Ruth Main and Robbie Douglas won with a net 37.125 with 2nd place going to the team of Jin Young, Carol Bennett, Pam Brown and Marg Lawrie.

Thank you to the catering ladies for a lovely champagne lunch before the classic and to Cape Jaffa Wines for their generous support.

Sunday – Robe Plumbing / Cape Jaffa Wines - Ladies and Men’s Village Classic

Sunday was the final event of the weekend which was the 19th running of the Robe Plumbing / Cape Jaffa Wines Village Classic Invitational.

The field comprised of some of the best 16 men and 12 ladies that the South East, Western Victoria and Adelaide has on offer.

The Men’s champion was Links Lady Bay player Jak Carter with an excellent 67 followed by Heywood’s Jayden McLeod with a 70.

Equal 3rd was Mount Gambier pair of Daryl Morgan and Darren Bilney with 71s.

The ladies competition saw Grange’s Caitlin Roberts win for her 2nd time followed by Grange’s Jin Young and Cobden’s Debbie Rix in equal 2nd.
