The Robe Football Club hosted a tough battle between the Robe Roosters and the Kingston Saints for their annual trial match today.
It was a tight game early on in the first quarter, with neither team giving an inch. The Roosters had some success in the second quarter, winning the ball out of the middle during some tight contests against a fierce Saints group.
New players to the Roosters side this year in Ruckman Tom Wachtel and former Penola A grader Tom Williams showed a lot of promise and were prolific around the ground, winning a number of contests and using their big bodies to their advantage, displaying great composure throughout the game.
2018 premiership captain Jon Agnew was also excellent around the ground, accumulating numerous possessions, doing well to link up with his teammates, showing determination and using his speed to create opportunities that would result in a number of inside 50s for the Roosters.
The third quarter was excellent to watch, with Kingston making a fierce comeback, creating opportunities throughout the ground and utilising their new players. Returning local Dylan Richardson was outstanding, showing a lot of skill in the early stages of the year.
The game resulted in a win for the Roosters, with the boys holding on to win by 4 goals.
The Robe Football Club room bar will be open tonight, all are welcome to come along.
