ADVERTISING FEATURE

Just over the border, the Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital (EDMH) has so much to offer.

Award-Winning Doctor

The EDMH Medical Clinic is located on the same site as the accommodation and hosts an award-winning doctor, Dr Lalani, who was recently recognised at the Victorian Rural Health Awards for her outstanding contribution to rural health.

The service provided by Dr Lalani and the medical clinic includes bulk billing of all patients and short wait times for appointments.

The facility also has access to a large variety of specialists both on-site and through the telehealth service, which saves many hours of driving to appointments.

All telehealth appointments are able to receive assistance by the practice nurse or Dr Lalani. To make appointments, contact the clinic direct on 03 5585 9888.

Aged Care Living

From independent living to high-care accommodation, your needs can be catered for. Directly across the road from the hospital are the Barkala Flats. These affordable, single-bedroom units have been recently refurbished and allow residents to live as independently as they like, whilst having the full range of services on their doorstep.

The Lakes Hostel Is located opposite the picturesque Lake Wallace, at the back of the hospital. The hostel consists of 22 single rooms with their own ensuite bathrooms.

Individual 24-hour care is provided by personnel and overseen by the hospital's registered nurses, who liaise between medical officers and other allied health services to ensure the best care is provided.

The Kowree Nursing Home, located as a wing of the hospital, accommodates 18 residents who require 24-hour care by qualified nursing staff. The facility is on one level to allow ease of access, ensuring comfortable accommodation in a welcoming environment.

Last year, the government announced funding for the hospital to completely redevelop the aged care facility.

The new facility will combine the Lakes Hostel and Kowree Nursing Home and will improve the overall quality of care of the residents. A combined facility means residents do not need to be transferred between 'low care' and 'high care' facilities as their needs increase. Works are expected to be completed in September, 2020.

Activities

The exercise program caters to all ages and abilities and provides the health and social benefits of exercising. Classes include low-impact aerobics, chair-based exercise, fall prevention, men-only exercise group, meditation and pilates.

Social Worker and Visiting Psychologist

EDMH has a social worker on-site, and a visiting psychologist once a week.

The social worker's role is to provide non-judgmental support and relevant information, and tailor support to clients' individual needs.

Supportive, confidential counselling is available, and the team can connect clients with appropriate services and resources. Other services available onsite include:

  • physiotherapist
  • dietitian
  • podiatrist
  • dentist
  • optometrist
  • urgent care
  • radiology
  • audiology
  • speech pathology
  • occupational therapy
