Naracoorte hosted the Crows Cup Carnival today. The carnival is a one-day girls only interschool football carnival aimed at encouraging young girls to give football a go in a fun and safe environment. Adelaide Crows AFLW star Sarah Allan, originally from Millicent, was a special guest on the day and played a role in umpiring and giving tips to players. Allan had a breakout AFLW season in 2018, being runner-up in the club champion award and winning an all-Australian squad nomination. As well as introducing girls to football, the 9-a-side carnival also promotes the benefits of physical activity and introduces positive role models. Importantly it is an important part of the female football pathway in South Australia and is a great opportunity for AFLW hopefuls to start their journey. Sixteen teams (192 girls) participated in the Naracoorte Crows Cup Carnival this year - a massive increase on the six teams who participated in the carnival last year. Naracoorte Primary School entered four teams, and Naracoorte 1 was successful in winning the cup and receiving a limited edition signed AFLW Crows football. They will also go on to play in the state finals later in the year.
