ADVERTISING FEATURE

The commercial focus of Cadnite Poll Dorset Stud ensures clients are well-positioned to get results in the marketplace.

Regularly, clients are able to produce export weight lambs off their mothers at 20 to 22 weeks.

As well as being at the top of the market locally, some clients sell over the hooks where yields have been achieved of up to 51 per cent out of 20-micron merino ewes.

The selection criteria at Cadnite is both visual and by using performance data by local technician Greg Fitzgerald.

Like Stockscan, raw data is provided using ultrasound measurements.

Measurements include eye muscle, depth, width, and area. Also, fat depth and weight.

Cadnite, since its inception nearly four decades ago, selected strongly for growth but with well-laid in shoulders for easy lambing management.

This strategy resulted in very low incidents of lambing problems in ewe hoggets, even ewe lambs.

This has made selection for low birth weights unnecessary, with low birth weights not strongly correlated to growth, in particular, and muscle.

Over the past decade, elite muscled sires have been used to increase yield without sacrificing growth.

Examples are Yentrac 82/08 (TRIP) emd65mm ema52cm sq. 55mm, 65mm EMD. 3 HF 10 82 sons including AI sire Ulandi Park 54/11 and Ivadene 412/13, which impressed clients at the 2017 sale with his width, bone, and clean points.

More recently Cadnite purchased Hilden 575/14 with an EMA of 44.5cm sq. A true to type Poll Dorset with excellent bone (corelated to muscle).

One of the benefits of paddock-reared rams is that of longevity.

Clients have reported an extra season of service by Cadnite rams.

Cadnite is a brucellosis accredited flock (844). Since its beginning, Cadnite has never returned a positive reaction. All rams have been OJD vaccinated.

Catalogues for the June drop rams will be available mid-September.
